AVG internet protection offers an extensive set of tools to ensure your computer is secure. It is however, struggling to make itself stand out from the crowd. The smart scan is good, checking for various issues such as unsafe browser extensions, as well as unsecure web pages that could be gateways to malware. However, it is not as effective of other competitor products in other areas, such as detecting fake websites that try to steal your information.
The program is easy to install and use. It has a simple interface that looks fantastic on any device. It is compatible regardless of whether you’re using a touchscreen screen or not. The five security options that come with the complete package which include Computer, Web & Email, Hacker Attacks, Privacy and Payments – are put together into categories that are easy to navigate on the main dashboard. They are further divided into sub-categories such as webcam and password protection.
You can upgrade to premium phone support or TuneUp tools for a small fee to get additional features. There’s a version with an VPN included for a fee.
Upselling is fairly aggressive and, regardless of which plan you choose to go with, some features are not available unless you upgrade to a better product. If you opt for the free version of AVG Internet Security is recommended, you’ll be prompted to install Google Chrome or AVG SafePrice. Always read the terms and conditions of any software you download because you may end up with a package that is less powerful than you had originally thought.
