The interface of Avast is simple to navigate, with a clear separation between the different elements. The blue icons are simple to use and have orange accents that match the logo of the company. The homepage allows you to conduct a scan and turn on the VPN as well as shortcuts to a couple of not-very-useful system optimisation tools are also available. The fact that the most pros and cons of windows defender useful features are hidden away in the “Explore tab” is infuriating.
The installation process is simple and you’re not pushed into a free version. However, the full scan will reveal “advanced issues” that can only be resolved by paying for premium security. This is a little sneaky. Particularly when you click the Resolve button and are directed to a webpage where you are asked to sign to sign up for Avast Premium security. Avast also sells user information which was revealed in a 2020 article from Which? magazine.
